Contentment Challenge Update-Month 1

Okay people. If you’ve been following along with my contentment challenge, then you know…we’ve made it through the first month! I have to be honest with you-I MISS SPENDING MONEY!!!!!

I didn’t think it would bother me as much as it is. The first 3 weeks I was completely fine. I’d make my coffee at home EVERY MORNING and aside from that, I really don’t splurge too much throughout the month. But I can assure you, I haven’t spent a dime on clothes, lunch or massages to name a few.

For whatever reason though, it’s really getting to me this past week. When I realized yesterday that I had officially made it past the first month, I automatically thought, “I have 2 more months of this to go?!” But I know it’s doing me good, even if I don’t know what that good is quite yet.

I will say, not spending a dime on myself has really put some things into perspective. We lost my father-in-law last month and with a death in the family comes ALL. THE. EXPENSES. It was just another reminder for my husband and I that none of us survive this world and the best way to take care of our family and friends is to make sure we have money set aside and plans set up in advance on how we want such circumstances to be handled.

This challenge has reminded me that money doesn’t define who we are. Our relationships with family, friends and God define who we are. In the month that I haven’t been spending money, I’ve had more time to spend with family and friends and reflect on what matters most to me.

Let’s see what I learn from the 2nd month of my Contentment Challenge. Update 2 coming in March!
