Wife to my husband, mother to my two-year old son and cat lady to my 2 tuxedo kitties.
I’m a real lover of everything Harry Potter, bookworm extraordinaire, baking queen, podcast binger, vanilla latte addict, yoga fanatic and consumer of far too many Christmas movies.
When I moved out at the age of 21, I was working a part time job at a pediatrician’s office while paying my way through community college.
I can distinctly remember one afternoon realizing I had to pay rent in a few days and not having any checks left. I didn’t realize I had to PAY to order more checks and I also didn’t realize that I had already over-drafted my checking account…
That single moment in time would be the turning point that changed the rest of my life, financially and otherwise.
I can recall the shear panic. Knowing I didn’t have enough money to buy more checks and knowing I wouldn’t get paid until Friday.
I knew I needing to organize my finances and find a solution to stay on track.
Is this you?! Have you been there? Have you felt that desperation? If you have, you’re in the right place!
Months later, on a whim I heard the end of a Dave Ramsey show on my drive home from work and the rest is history.
I created my first budget with an old high school notebook (that handy dandy notebook can still be found on my bookcase to this day!) in my little 1-bedroom apartment.
Since then, I’ve learned and taught myself and others so much about money and putting together a concise, simple budget!
Who knew the girl who hated math would be so in love with numbers as an adult?!
I was able to pay off my credit card debt, continue cash flowing college and start my first $1,000 emergency fund using part of my tax return that year.
Let’s fast-forward 3 years.
My husband and I got married in 2017. If I’m being completely honest, we were a hot mess with our money in the beginning. Combining finances and navigating the various accumulated debts is not for the faint of heart!
Although we were newly married, it wasn’t long before we went all in on becoming debt free.
We became debt free in 2020, paying off close to $45,000 in roughly 2 years.
This could be you! Let me help you get on track with your finances using resources and tools that were proven in helping me become debt free!
We paid off everything from student loans to car payments to credit cards. It was the single-most liberating experience of my life to have NO PAYMENTS!
Prior to starting our debt freedom journey, I felt lost, anxious, stressed and overwhelmed with our finances. It felt like we had enough money to live on, but I never knew where all that hard earned money went. Why we couldn’t afford to do fun things on the weekend with friends or take trips?
I KNOW I can’t be the only one that felt that way! Can I get an AMEN?!
In the midst of becoming debt free, we were trying to start a family to no avail. We tried to have a baby for 2.5 years, all while cash flowing things like chlomid, dairy-free groceries, hormone tests, acupuncture/massages and HSG tests.
I won’t bore you with all of the details. What I can tell you is those were some of the hardest, darkest years of my life. Budgeting and paying off our debt seemed to be my distraction.
During that process, I found out that I have a real hankering for crunching numbers-mainly surrounding budgets and money.
Ironically, the month after we finished paying off all of our debt, I found out I was pregnant with our miracle baby boy! I like to think of that small, but significant detail in our lives as a God-wink.
But let me tell you what! Budgeting with children is a whole new ballgame!
When we finally reached debt freedom, we were able to do whatever we wanted with our money! We enjoyed $5 Tuesday movies at the local movie theater almost every week. We were able to eat out more.
We even celebrated our new accomplishment by planning our own weekend getaways-me to Vegas with a close friend and my husband to Texas to visit a friend who lived there.
I LOVE helping others. It’s truly a passion of mine to help those around me in need.
I’ve helped countless friends start a budget and I figured, why not start a blog that can help even more people!
Let me help you learn how to take control of your money, pay off your debt and start saving to live the life you’ve always dreamed of!
