- Cinco de Mayo (May 5th)-although it’s frequently looked over that Cinco de Mayo is a Spanish holiday to celebrate the Battle of Puebla, here in the United States we like to celebrate by eating Mexican food and drinking with friends and family. If this a tradition you have, don’t forget to include it in your monthly budget.
- Mother’s Day (May 8th)– that one time a year we focus on our mothers and all they do for us. Be sure to plan for gifts, fun activities, family meals prepared at home or a special eating out occasion (pro tip-start planning now for Father’s Day gifts because you know it’s always the month after Mother’s Day!)
- Memorial Day weekend (May 28-31st)-Memorial Day weekend is a special holiday that we remember those who sacrificed their lives to protect ours here in the United States and keep our country free. Lots of people like to take weekend camping trips or have local BBQs and light fireworks. Plan ahead and make sure you have money for such things. (Another pro tip-while we’re on the topic of fireworks and BBQs, get ahead of the curve by shopping early and stocking up on food items for cookouts and fireworks pertaining to the 4th of July since you’ll most likely be doing that now in May already)
- Garage sales-it’s that time of year again! If you’re into searching for a diamond in the rough or snagging killer deals, start saving that pocket change and set aside a little budget money to shop around some neighborhood garage sales and negotiate for a great deal!
Look Ahead!
Father’s Day is fast approaching!
